An important part of diabetes management plans is actually learning how to properly count carbohydrates. The amount of carbohydrates in your food determines how much insulin you need to take. Foods that contain a lot of carbs should be measured out carefully for every meal to help with diabetes management.

Be active - It is important to talk with your doctor about an exercise plan that will work for you that will also help with diabetes management. Your doctor can help you figure out the best time of day to exercise, eat, and take your medication, so that your body can function optimally. It is very important to stay hydrated while exercising because being dehydrated can affect blood sugar levels.

Manage stress - It is important to figure out any patterns between your blood sugar levels and stress levels by logging both. This will make it easier to figure out coping mechanisms to keep your stress levels in check and hopefully keep your blood sugar levels from spiking. 

Avoid alcohol - Consuming alcohol distracts your liver from aiding your body with metabolizing sugar. This can be very detrimental to your health if you are not careful, so contact your doctor before drinking any alcoholic beverages.
